How time off works at Purpose in Play

By law, every team member must take a minimum of ~4 weeks of paid time off per year. We feel that is not enough and consider you should take more than that. When in doubt: 4-6 weeks is a good bandwidth. Less than that is not enough; more than that can happen; check with your lead if you're in doubt if it's reasonable.

We don't keep track of holidays

Time off is about the time you need, not about a quota. Need an extra day to re-charge catch up on life admin? 1-day 'vacations' are great too! You don't need to be doing something glamorous to justify having time off.

Please use this time off to reload. Make sure to take enough moments of rest when you have periods of working hard. This also works the other way around: perhaps you had a chill quarter and felt no need to take a holiday: feel free to do so. We want you to take enough rest to reload and recharge so you can be at your prime when working. Taking enough rest is as important as giving it your all when working. The well-known on and off switch.

We all need time to relax, recharge, and pursue other passions. Sometimes we need to care for our health or the health of our loved ones. Regardless of the reason, you know best when you need to take time off work.

When you take a vacation, we encourage you to really be on vacation. It's great if you'll be reachable only for emergencies or off the grid altogether. Your communication plans for the time off should include telling your team how reachable you will be and the preferred means of communication (if any).

Communicate and coordinate your time off with your manager and team

Minimize disruption to teammates when you're taking time off; please be sure to:

Avoid too many last minute days off

Avoid too many last minute days off. There are occasions where you may want to take a last minute time off and we want to support this — you may have received tickets to an event or wish to extend a holiday a day or two. It is generally considered good practice to provide two days' notice for each day of vacation. For example, if you're taking a two-week vacation, let us know a month in advance. For a one-day vacation, one-day notice is usually sufficient.

We will speak to you if we feel you are taking too much time off

There may be times when we feel people are taking too much time off or generally abusing our flexibility. We expect this not to happen as we're building a culture of trust and strong collaboration. But we will speak to you if this happens and be open-minded around why — we hope you will open up if anything is going on that would be helpful for us to know.

Paid time-off allowance is not for working part-time or sick leave
